We
all possess this separate sense of self. Where does
it come from and at
what age does it begin to form? How long has the
concept of self been
around in the history of humanity?
See what you can learn from the separate sense of self
and
the wisdom of the dualistic mind.
In
this course, we take a light-hearted look at how we
develop our sense of
self, the ‘I’’ or ‘me’ that is so
commonly referred to in everyday conversations.
As
part of this exploration we distinguish the
Freudian Ego—the self-organizing
principle of the psyche—from the individual-self—the part
of us which is motivated
by conditioned fears and
desires —from the Shadow, our unconscious
which
comprises the denied and repressed (both
good and bad) aspects of ourselves.
With clarity on these dissimilarities, a seeker
does
not forever remain a seeker.
To
help us in this journey
we will use exercises, real
life stories, questions and
answers, and Genpo Roshi´s Big Mind
Process to dig into and
simultaneously
deepen the part of ourselves that
has helped us to evolve from
the Stone Age
until today.
Benefits
of this course:
- Learn
why the ego is not at all a bad thing, just our
attachment
to this wonderful aspect of human development.
- Find out where the 'idea' of the self came from
and how old it is.
- Learn how and when the
separate-sense-of-self (the ego) is
formed in our children and why this is
important for parents to know.
-
Discover
why
a fully formed 'self' is critical in our spiritual development.
- Distinguish between the Ego,
the ego, and the shadow and
why these
realizations
are important to your
development.
- Learn
why the future of humanity depends upon a conscious
recognition
of separate sense of self by many millions of
people.
Once differentiated, the Freudian Ego can be
developed as needed. The separate
sense of self, once identified, can be transcended and
included, and the
shadow can be acknowledged, owned, and reintegrated.
This course is based on Chapter 2 - The Whole 'I'
- from Mick's book,
The Uncommon Path.
Gaining
clarity on the ego will greatly advance your state
of mind
